Ballet Palm Beach presents Don Quixote on April 4, 7:30pm and April 5, 2pm and 7:30pm at the Eissey Campus Theatre at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens. Set to Minkus’s explosive score, the ballet takes you back to old Spain for the retelling of “Kitri’s Wedding”, a chapter from Cervantes’s epic novel, Don Quixote. Prior to the show’s opening, Wes Chapman, former principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre under the direction of Mikhail Baryshnikov, will bring his wealth of knowledge to the company’s rehearsals in a special three-week coaching period. “We are excited to have Wes be a part of our next production! This bright ballet gem is strong in it’s technique, but silly in it’s story. It’s a great way to introduce the whole family to a classic”, says Colleen Smith, Artistic Director. For tickets go to www.balletpalmbeach.org or call 561.207.5900.

The ballet will tell the story of Kitri, town beauty, and Basilio, town barber, who want to be married (when they aren’t fighting). To their dismay, Kitri’s father has plans for her to join hands with the wealthy Gamache. Then enters the disillusioned dreamer Don Quixote, an aging nobleman who has filled his mind with stories of romance, knights and chivalry. When Don Quixote mistakes Kitri for his late wife, Dulcinea, Kitri and Basilio have one problem too many. Running away, they take matters into their own hands, ensuring their own happy ending.

The ballet will star Lily Ojea as Kitri, Rogelio Corrales as Basilio, Eric Emerson as Espada, Megan Dunn as Amour, Emily Nichols as the Dryad Queen, Marshall Levin as Gamache, and Joseph J. Bucheck, III as Lorenzo, Kitri’s father. Former Ballet Florida dancer, Dan Harris will perform as Don Quixote.
