Children’s Matinee- Romeo and Juliet

This content has been archived. It may no longer be relevant

As much as we want to expand children’s minds through great art and literature- Shakespearean tragedies don’t oft make suitable stories for young ears. Blood, vengeance, lust, and –most dastardly– the Early Modern English vocabulary…what’s a parent to do?

Fret not! Bypass the language barrier completely and see the ballet version! That’s a two-fold punch of classic literature and classical ballet rolled into one event!

“But will my child be able to sit through it all or even be interested?” you ask.
Answer:  an unequivocal yes. Ballet Palm Beach is holding a special children’s matinee showing of Romeo and Juliet on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2pm. It’s short and sweet- running about 1 hour to an hour 30 min (as opposed to the 2+ hr full length show).

This performance is just one act- presenting just enough to tell a cohesive story without showing a bevy of deaths. The ballet features sword fighting, bright costumes, and lots of action! Additionally, there will be opportunities for audience participation and a meet and greet with the dancers after the show!

Romeo and Juliet makes a unique, thrilling, (and educational) family outing!
