Luncheon First Step Towards New Nutcracker

Ballet Palm Beach has its eyes set on the Kravis Center as the venue for next year’s Nutcracker for December 2-3, 2017. The venue will not be the only thing different about these performances. Plans are already underway to revamp the choreography, libretto, and sets. But, as with every non-profit art organization, Ballet Palm Beach relies heavily on the generosity of its patrons. The Kravis rental alone costs $80,000. To catapult fundraising efforts, Ballet Palm Beach held a Nutcracker Luncheon at the Kravis Center’s Cohen Pavilion on December 9, 2016.

During the luncheon, Artistic Director Colleen Smith and Event Chairwoman Joy Miltenberger recognized the McGoulds and Swans of Lighthouse Partners in their $40,000 donation for the new production. “After many years of finding our footing tied to this supportive community, we enter a new era of productivity and opportunity,” said Smith. “We are honored to have Lighthouse Partners take the first step in securing the money needed for this new production.”

The Nutcracker-inspired event featured a silent auction and a performance by Ballet Palm Beach company dancers. Due to the generosity of over 150 ballet patrons in attendance, Ballet Palm Beach is one step closer to its goal. The anticipated move to the iconic venue will be a major leap in solidifying Ballet Palm Beach’s role in Palm Beach County’s growing cultural center. Dancer Lily Ojea Loveland said, “When I joined the company, there were only two paid dancers doing the work of many people. It felt like a long shot. But here we are now… truly a success, thanks to the community’s active faith in us.”

The company still seeks sponsors and underwriters for the new Nutcracker, including donations for new costumes, sets, and equipment. Interested parties can call 561.630.8235 or contact development@balletpalmbeach.org for sponsorship opportunities.
