Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. – Palm Beach County’s own professional ballet company, Ballet Palm Beach, leaps into the holiday season on Thanksgiving weekend with The Nutcracker. This community favorite will be performed at the Eissey Campus Theatre at Palm Beach State College, Nov. 25 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Nov. 26 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 27 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets begin at $19 and can be purchased online at balletpalmbeach.org or by calling 561.814.5598.

“If you have never seen a ballet before, The Nutcracker is the perfect place to start,” says Marshall Levin, Ballet Palm Beach character artist. “It’s a tradition to ballet companies and audiences across the globe, and, there are perhaps as many versions of The Nutcracker as there are companies. Even with our own company, we continually improve upon the year before to keep it fresh. This year’s performance will include over sixty local children who perform alongside our newly expanded professional ballet company. If you want something special to do with the family once the Thanksgiving tryptophan wears off, support your local arts and see us in the theatre!”

Set in nineteenth-century Europe, The Nutcracker tells of a young girl, Clara, who receives a mysterious gift on Christmas Eve.  Tchaikovsky’s familiar score draws Clara into a terrifying battle with the Rat King, past a mystical snowstorm, to the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Kingdom of Sweets. Ballet Palm Beach’s The Nutcracker is suitable for all ages, captivating the young and the young at heart.
