January 16, 2018 (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) – Ballet Palm Beach announces its upcoming production of Gatsby, an original ballet interpreting F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece, The Great GatsbyGatsby highlights the exuberance of the Roaring Twenties and the love of Jay Gatsby, danced by Tyveze Littlejohn, for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, danced by Lily Ojea Loveland. Performances are at Benjamin Hall at The Benjamin School, Upper School, Saturday, February 24th at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 25th at 4:00 p.m. Tickets begin at $19 and can be purchased online at balletpalmbeach.org or by phoning (561) 814-5598.

“I was originally inspired to create a ballet after The Great Gatsby because of the depth and beauty of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s writing. He had the ability to choose just the right words creating sentences with incredible depth and meaning,” said Artistic Director Colleen Smith. “Phrases such as, ‘Reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope’ are the inspiration behind Gatsby, the ballet. We will unfold the story through imagery, music from the time period, and the power of dance.” In this second production since creating Gatsby, the ballet, Ms. Smith has added additional choreography to match the ever-evolving talents of her dancers.

Set in the lavish 1920’s in West Egg, Long Island, the story is told through the eyes of Nick Carraway who moves into the cottage next door to Jay Gatsby’s mansion. Jay Gatsby seems to have it all. He has achieved the American dream of rising above where he came from, living a life of extravagance. The only thing missing is his first love, Daisy, who is now married to another man. In the end, Gatsby gets everything he desired but is still left with emptiness and ultimately brought to his demise in this tragic tale.
