A SPECIAL TWO-DAY FUNDRAISING EVENT AT THE KRAVIS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

October 18, 2017 (West Palm Beach, FL) – Ballet Palm Beach, the professional ballet company of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast, founded by Colleen Smith, will present two exciting, new-to-the-company works: Christopher HugginsThe List and George Balanchine’s Who Cares?  These special fundraising performances will take place on Thursday and Friday, October 26 and 27, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. in the Marshall E. Rinker, Sr. Playhouse at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.  Tickets include one drink per patron and for a limited number of ticket holders, an upgrade of two drinks per person, along with light bites at stage-front cabaret seating.

Former Alvin Ailey dancer and acclaimed choreographer, Christopher Huggins, will introduce The List, revealing his motivation in creating a contemporary dance piece surrounding the Holocaust. This short, albeit powerful work, in Huggins’ words, is a “haunting glimpse into the lives of a Jewish family of fourfrom their kitchen table to their end.”

Steven Caras, a Balanchine protégé and subject of the Emmy Award-winning film, Steven Caras: See Them Dance — who is also an advisor to Ballet Palm Beach –will conduct an audience “Talk Back” with the starring dancers of Who Cares? directly following the piece. “Even more inspiring than dancing this ballet is having the opportunity to share Mr. Balanchine’s genius with subsequent generations of eager and worthy artists,” says Mr. Caras.  Guest Principal Dancer, Joseph Gatti, former Principal Dancer at Corella Ballet in Spain and Cincinnati Ballet and currently an esteemed Guest Principal Dancer with Orlando Ballet, will perform with the three leading ladies in the piece.

A festive “meet and greet” after each performance will take place in the lobby, giving audience members a chance to mingle with the artists and members of the Ballet Palm Beach family.

Proceeds from this two-day event will directly support Ballet Palm Beach’s outreach program which serves several thousand young students annually, and the company’s all-new, upcoming production of The NutcrackerThe List is graciously sponsored in part by Rob and Amy Swan.

Tickets for this fundraiser are available through the Kravis Center Box Office by calling (561) 832-7469 or by visiting www.kravis.org
